The Portland Trail Blazers entered Wednesday night’s action tied with Dallas for fifth in the Western Conference. The Mavericks beat New Orleans 125-107 on Wednesday, putting pressure on the Blazers to keep pace by beating the Utah Jazz.
The Blazers did just that, winning 105-98 to hand Utah just its fifth home loss of the season. The Blazers remain in fifth place in the West with two games left in the regular season.
Portland’s defense stepped up in a big way to hold the Jazz under 100 points, even if the Jazz (50-20) were without Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley.

The stars appear to be aligning for the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Memphis Grizzlies, who won twice at Portland on April 23 and April 25, defeated Dallas, 133-104 Tuesday night. That created a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference between the Mavericks (40-29) and the Blazers (40-29) with the latter holding the tiebreaker.
