Rhyl charity bike ride to raise donations for Royal British Legion as 100th anniversary approaches

Twelve cyclists from Rhyl will each clock up the 432-mile distance to the Belgian-French battlefields during February and March by using stationary exercise bikes and outdoor cycle routes. The fundraiser is being organised by the Rhyl branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) as the charity for Armed Forces veterans and the Poppy Appeal celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Richard Kendrick, Poppy Appeal organiser for the Rhyl branch, said the virtual bike ride is one of many online fundraisers taking place this year to raise scarce donations amid surge in demand on the charity’s services during the coronavirus pandemic.

Article content Busines came through On behalf of the Business Cares food drive committee, I would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the London community for helping us raise an astonishing 271,000 kilograms of food for the London Food Bank. This is a 34 per cent increase over last year. We set no goal for our 21st year, not wanting to put any pressure on the community or our committee during the pandemic. We asked for businesses and people to donate, but only if they were able. The food collected the past month from more than 500 businesses, their employees and the community will satisfy the needs of the food bank and 28 other social agencies and programs throughout the winter.
