A state-of the art $9.7 million vessel based at Gladstone will bring new capabilities in compliance, surveying and research on the southern Great Barrier Reef.
The 24-metre Reef Resilience vessel was unveiled on Friday by Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley, Queensland Environment and Great Barrier Reef Minister Meaghan Scanlon and Manufacturing, Regional Development and Water Minister, Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher.
Ms Ley said the Reef Resilience vessel was jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland governments under the Reef Joint Field Management Program. Subscriber only The Health Services Union has targeted Federal Member for Flynn Ken O Dowd and Prime Minister Scott Morrison is an advertising campaign calling for aged care funding. The campaign was launched on Friday urging Mr O Dowd and Mr Morrison to address Australia s aged care crisis in the upcoming budget. The pre-budget blitz will see radio ads calling on Mr O Dowd and the Prime Minister to consider spending a night in an aged care facility, where one aged carer looks after 60 residents, and residents face long waits for their basic needs to be met. Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals leader Michael McCormack has paid tribute to Federal member for Flynn Ken OâDowd for his 10 plus years of service to the region.
When Mr McCormack was in Gladstone this week he thanked Mr OâDowd, stating the pair were elected to Federal Parliament in the 2010 election.
Together they announced $10 million in funding, $5 million to establish a hydrogen knowledge centre in Gladstone and $5 million to beautify Auckland Hill.
After he was born in Gladstone Hospital in 1950, Mr OâDowd went to school at Gladstone, before becoming captain at Rockhampton Grammar while at high school.

The Federal Government has announced a further $100 million to extend a minerals exploration incentive by four years, in Gladstone on Wednesday.

Minerals Exploration Incentive (JEMI) would help to ensure jobs for future generations of miners.

The Coalition Government will contribute a further $100 million to extend the Junior Minerals Exploration Incentive (JMEI) four more years. Extension of the JMEI program will help to ensure jobs for future generations of miners, which may not occur without additional and ongoing exploration activities.
Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia Keith Pitt said the Junior Minerals Exploration Incentive allows eligible companies to access tax incentives to attract new investors.
