Lightning of the good kind struck a second time for Pratt County resident Jackie Mundt with the announcement last week that she was selected as recipient of a 2021 Ford vehicle of her choice as winner of the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Ag competition.
“The award is a $35,000 voucher for a new Ford of my choice,” said Mundt, who two years ago won a similar award and chose as her prize a Magma Red 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck
The entry prepared by Mundt, who turned 35 last July, was a 10-page application highlighting her agricultural-related employment as marketing and communications manager for Kanza Coop and her ag-related community activites, including as an advisor for Pratt County 4-H ambassador and in support of ag programs at both Pratt and Skyline High Schools.

Outgoing Pratt City Commissioner Doug Meyer would like to the opportunity to continue serving his community as a city commissioner, but term-limits currently in place negate that possibility. He brought the issue to discussion at the December 7 Pratt City Commission meeting, and again to the Monday, December 21 meeting, after seeking commuinty input.
The Monday meeting, planned to be Zoom available, was derailed by technical issues.
The term-limit regulation was put in place a decade ago as a result of a public vote held in a special election. Currently, city commissioners serve three-year terms and are eligible to run for a second three-year term, but not for a third term.

Cari-out is a new delivery service in Pratt started by the-mother-and-daughter team of Cari Haning and Cassie Phye who saw a need and decided to take action to fill it.
“It’s really simple how our service works,” said Phye. “We pick up deliveries anywhere in town and deliver them as requested within the city limits.”
The person making the order calls the order in to the store or restaurant and pays for the order, then calls Cari-Out to arrange for the order to be picked up and delivered for a $3.00 delivery fee, with optional tip. An extra charge is added for out-of-town deliveries.

One batch at a time, Bev Hallowell is creating chocolate delicacies in the kitchen of her Pratt family home, some of which she’s been told are making their way to U.S. soldiers overseas.
“I’m happy that the soldiers will be enjoying some homemade sweets,” said Hallowell.
The Pratt chocolatier is in her seventh year of marketing her tastebud-tickling confectionary delights which she packages in two-ounce cups with lid, spoon included, for $1.
“They’re ideal as Christmas stocking stuffers or to add to gift baskets or to use as party or wedding favors throughout the year or sometimes people just like to treat themselves,” Hallowell said.
