COVID-19 briefing, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said she’s been talking with her colleagues a lot about the variant, as they have been watching what has been happening in other countries. She said, much to their dismay, the variant “does change the game in some ways” if it does take off and becomes dominant. “All of us have dreaded that,” she said, as she said it can take us back to how we were operating at the beginning of the pandemic with case management, contact tracing, and controlling every single case.

School Trustees Association president Stephanie Higginson announced expanded health measures in schools. Among the updated measures are making masks mandatory in all indoor school spaces (with specific exceptions) for all students and staff except elementary students, and more guidelines for physical education and music classes. In addition, the federal government extended a prohibition on cruise ships in all Canadian waters and all pleasure craft entering Canada s Arctic waters, which was scheduled to expire at the end of this month, until February 2022.

COVID-19 exposures: More warning notices posted by B C grocery stores

  VANCOUVER Over the past several days, multiple COVID-19 exposure notices have been posted at B.C. grocery stores. Two parent companies – Loblaws and Sobeys – posted warnings of possible exposures to the disease since Tuesday. The latest notices were for the following locations: Real Canadian Superstore at 2280 Baron Rd. in Kelowna. A notice was posted on Jan. 5 about two team members. They last worked on Dec. 28 and Dec. 31. Real Canadian Superstore at 8195 120th St. in Delta. A notice was posted on Jan. 5; the employee last worked on Dec. 31. Safeway at 697 Bernard Ave. in Kelowna. A notice was posted on Jan. 6; the employee last worked on Dec. 29.

Lower Mainland grocery stores hit by coronavirus - Vancouver Is Awesome

More Metro Vancouver stores have been hit by COVID-19 cases involving staff members. An employee at a Coquitlam Safeway has tested positive for the coronavirus. That’s according to the grocery chain’s parent company, Sobeys Inc., which issued an exposure notification for its 580 Clarke Road location on Christmas Day. The company indicated the worker last worked at the store Dec. 22.  It’s not clear if any other staff or members of the public were exposed to the individual at the store s Burquitlam location. Two employees at a Real Canadian Superstore in Coquitlam also tested positive for the coronavirus in the store’s third exposure notification in less than a month.
