FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Hazard pay isn t coming in a hurry for grocery store workers in Fresno after the city council postponed its vote on a $3 per hour raise during the pandemic.
The coronavirus has infected a minimum of 20,000 grocery store workers in the U.S., according to union representatives.
Fresno City Council President Luis Chavez says not all of their employers have done enough to reward the employees for risking their own health and their families to keep everyone else fed.

Grocery store workers would receive hazard pay in the form of an extra $3 an hour for 120 days under the plan.

Chavez says the dozen grocery stores in his district have been hit hard by COVID-19. Grocery stores can have the potential to be these petri dishes in the middle of our community and I saw my district go through that quite horribly with the zip codes that I represent being hot spots, he says.
But the California Grocers Association calls the proposal irresponsible and one which could lead to unintended consequences.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) A cat is back on solid ground thanks to Fresno City Council President Luis Chavez.
The cat Chavez calls George was stuck in the tree overnight in the area of Huntington and Cedar in southeast Fresno.
When he noticed it Sunday morning, he climbed up and after some failed attempts, and some cuts from George he was able to get him down successfully.

The Fresno City Council will vote Thursday on a plan to suspend bus fares throughout the city. Councilmembers Tyler Maxwell, Esmeralda Soria and Nelson
