Fresno, Kings County s COVID vaccine shipments delayed by nation s cold weather

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) As winter storms continue to impact parts of the country, it is also impacting the supply of the COVID-19 vaccine in Central California.
Kings County and Fresno County announced on Thursday the severe weather has caused shipping delays for the expected doses.
The Kings County health department said it has very limited supplies of the vaccine, which are intended for necessary second doses. It is suspending plans for vaccine clinics until additional supplies arrive.
The county s vaccine distribution was also being impacted by glitches in the MyTurn platform for scheduling COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

Essential workers employed by California cantaloupe growers are among some of the first front-line food workers to receive COVID-19 vaccines in the state that grows the majority of our nation’s fruits and vegetables.
“We’re so thankful to be able to offer our workers these life-saving vaccines,” said Garrett Patricio of Westside Produce Co., a cantaloupe harvesting, packing and shipping company located in Firebaugh, CA. “Farmworkers are just one of the many groups who need and want to be vaccinated and we urge federal and state leaders to get more shots in more arms of more workers as quickly as possible.”
