SEATTLE - The top public health official in Washington stateâs most populous county is asking everyone to wear masks in indoor public spaces because of the rise of the COVID-19 delta variant â even if they have been vaccinated.
Dr. Jeff Duchin, health officer at Public Health â Seattle & King County, made the recommendation Friday.
Washington stateâs top epidemiologist, Dr. Scott Lindquist, is urging people to use common sense and to try to not be in places with poor ventilation but is not issuing a state mask recommendation for vaccinated people.

ST. LOUIS â St. Louis and St. Louis County leaders announced Friday that they will reinstate a mask requirement, in response to increased spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus.
Masks will be required beginning on Monday in indoor public places and on public transportation. The rule will apply to people age five and older, including those who are vaccinated.
Masks will be strongly encouraged outdoors, especially in group settings, but not required.
St. Louis County Executive Sam Page (left) and St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones announced Friday at City Hall that mask mandates and social distancing requirements would be lifted, effective immediately.
The mandate goes into effect Monday and applies to everyone over the age of 5, including those who have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
