THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Friday gazetted the nomination of top diplomat, Frederick Shava as Senator for Midlands province to pave his way for taking oath as the new Foreign Minister.
Most Zimbabweans were recently shocked when Shava, who is currently serving as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the United Nations, was appointed Foreign Minister by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
He replaced the late Sibusiso Moyo who succumbed to Covid-19 last month.
However, Shava could not take oath of office as minister as his new appointment had to be regularised first in terms of the Constitution.
ZEC also notified the nomination of Dorothy Mabika as a Zanu PF Senator for Manicaland province. She replaces the Ellen Gwaradzimba who also died after testing Covid-19 positive last month.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) yesterday gazetted the nomination of Dr Frederick Shava and Dorothy Mabika to replace the late Dr Sibusiso Moyo and Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba respectively as Senators after Zanu-PF submitted their names to the electoral management body.
The nomination of Dr Shava to become a Senator paves way for him to assume, after his swearing-in, the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade following his appointment by President Mnangagwa.
Dr Shava, who is currently Zimbabwe’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, United States, could not take oath of office together with four other appointees as his appointment had to be regularised in terms of the Constitution.

DEMOCRATIC People’s Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Ri Son Gwon on Saturday sent a congratulatory message to Frederick Musiiwa Makamure Shava upon his appointment as minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Shava is a long-time ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa who has fifteen years of diplomatic experience representing Zimbabwe in China and most recently at the United Nations.
Expressing belief that the historic and traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow strong, the North Korean message wished the Zimbabwean minister success in his work for the development of foreign relations of the country.
