At 7:30 p.m. each day, freshman computer science major Marium Farukh rushes to the dining hall. She goes before closing to get dinner sheâll need when she breaks her fast for the day at Iftar around 8 p.m. When she gets there, the majority of the food has already been eaten by other students, and sheâs left with very few options of what students didnât want. Sheâs frustrated, and now she has to rush back to her dorm before itâs time to say prayers and eat.
Ramadan is a Muslim holiday that celebrates Muhammadâs initial revelations of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. During Ramadan, Muslims practice fasting â one of the five pillars of Islam Ââ from sunrise to sunset, breaking fast at Iftar, the meal eaten after sunset. Because Ramadan falls 11 days earlier each year, it falls April 12 through May 12 this year, the same time JMU students will be preparing for and taking their spring semester finals.Â

A coalition of social justice organizations in Orange County is working to halt the expansion of the James A. Musick jail near Irvine.
Members of the Stop the Musick Coalition believe the $289 million not including operating costs devoted to the addition of nearly 900 new beds to the facility are unnecessary because the county’s jail population has decreased.
The coalition also believes that incarceration is not an effective treatment for social ills, and the money could be better spent on social programs that address the root causes of crime.

Many of James Charles’s friends and business partners have not commented on recent allegations. (Image credit: James Charles/Instagram) “I’m sorry that I added you, I’m sorry that I flirted with you and I’m really sorry that I made you uncomfortable,” Charles continued. In the April 1 video Charles said the boys initially told him they were 18. But he added he should have done more research to confirm that.
If You’re Happy and You Know It, You Might Live in Irvine
Irvine’s eternal summer, abundance of green space, diversity, and top-notch schools have landed it a top spot as one of the nation’s most joyous cities.
The central Orange County, Calif. city was No. 12 in a Wallethub listing of the happiest cities in the United States. The personal finance website compared 182 of the largest cities.
“[Ranking] No. 12 nationwide is great, but we can be better,” Mayor Farrah Khan told The Epoch Times March 16 via email.
“The City of Irvine strives to provide the best in quality of life for our residents, businesses and workers. It’s no surprise that we rank in the top 15 when it comes to being one of the happiest cities. … I look forward to working to move Irvine toward the No. 1 spot.”
