Four dead suspects in botched robbery in capital identified

The ringleader of a gang who attempted to rob and kidnap a wealthy family in the Borey Angkor gated community in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district on March 1 was formerly employed by the family as a driver, according to a report from the Phnom Penh municipal police on March 2.
The report identified Oem Sovannarith, 21, as the man who had initiated the plans to rob and kidnap his former employer and his family.

China approves second shipment of Covid jabs

The Chinese government has agreed to provide an additional 400,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine for the second phase of Cambodia’s vaccination campaign. These doses are scheduled to arrive in Cambodia before the Khmer New Year in April.
This comes as the Ministry of Health recorded 15 more cases of Covid-19 on March 1, all but one of which were linked to the February 20 community transmission.
On February 7, the first batch of 600,000 doses of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine donated by China was delivered to Cambodia. The government then launched the first Covid-19 vaccination campaign on February 10.

Four fatally shot in botched kidnapping

Four armed men were fatally shot after they allegedly attempted to rob and kidnap a wealthy family living in the Borey Angkor gated community in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district, according to the municipal Military Police.
A report on its official Facebook page did not reveal the identities of the armed group or the family. It said only that the group, armed with a modern AK-47 automatic rifle and two pistols, had planned to kidnap the house owners for a million-dollar ransom and then kill them as well as two people working in the house.
