US report insists twin-turbo petrol V6 will power the 2022 Raptor; Aussie version may score V6 diesel
The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor will be powered by a beefy 300kW 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 that will easily out-perform the 157kW/500Nm Bi-Turbo 2.0-litre diesel in the current model, including the upcoming Raptor X.
That’s according to US website Ford Authority, which cites “sources familiar with the matter”.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard such speculation, but this report insists the lusty EcoBoost V6 – which delivers up to about 300kW and 560Nm via a 10-speed automatic transmission in the US-market Ford Explorer ST – will be the sole engine offering in the new Ranger Raptor, which could be sold in the US for the first time.

Does this mean it s also US-bound?
The Ford Ranger most wanted in America is currently forbidden fruit. It s very unlikely to remain that way. Ford is reportedly set to unveil the Ranger Raptor not long after the next generation Ranger itself is revealed, probably for the 2022 model year. Testing remains ongoing and the Ranger Raptor is expected to arrive for 2023. But the big question is what will power that almighty mid-size truck?
Ford Authority claims it s been told by sources familiar with the matter that the 2023 Ranger Raptor will come powered by the twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This is the same engine and gearbox combo found in higher trim levels of the Ford Explorer and base Lincoln Aviator.

Offered from 2016 through the 2020 model year, the Shelby GT350 and more aggressive GT350R feature a high-revving V8. The 5.2-liter Voodoo won’t continue production as a crate engine, which is why the aftermarket decided to cater to GT350 customers with OEM-like replacement parts and upgraded components such as forged pistons. 12 photos
Automotive supplier Mahle is much obliged to sell you drop-in forged pistons for the Voodoo V8 as drop-in replacements. The ready-to-run pack is designed with the factory rods in mind, but rectangular rods are compatible as well. Coated with GRAFAL and phosphate for minimal drag, these pistons feature anodized ring grooves and PTWA-coated bore rings.

Developed in response to Chevrolet’s big-block 454 SS and GMC’s turbo-engined Syclone, the SVT Lightning was a commercial success for the Ford Motor Company. The single-cab street truck was produced over two generations, and word has it that the Lightning will return once again. 14 photos
“the Blue Over is currently considering a high-performance Ford F-150, one that - if brought to production - would satisfy those who crave a pickup designed to perform on the pavement rather than off-road.” The cited publication doesn’t give any names, doesn’t know if we’re talking about rear-wheel drive, and the engine is a mystery as well.
