Indiana attorney general looking into Ohio unemployment scam

Jan 29, 2021 / 10:35 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The state of Ohio couldn’t tell I-Team 8 how many people in Indiana are victims of unemployment fraud. But after our story aired last week, we heard from several people. A spokesperson for the state of Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services told I-team 8 that of the 1.4 million claims for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, almost 800,000 have been flagged as fraudulent.  And the problem has crossed over the border and into the office of the Indiana Attorney General.  “In fact, I just got off the phone with one,” said David Swetman of the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. He says the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance money allocated by Congress has been a feeding frenzy for fraudsters.

Should you be double-masking? An Indianapolis doctor weighs in on 2-mask debate

Jan 27, 2021 / 03:11 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – As new coronavirus variants spread, some health experts suggest using two masks could be better than one and like many things during the pandemic, there are differing opinions. A recent News 8 Twitter poll shows 76% of those who responded voted “no” to wearing two masks while 23% voted “yes.” Gina Logan from Columbus, Indiana is one of those who voted “yes” and says she started double masking three weeks ago wearing first a cloth mask that has three layers and then the disposable mask with the fitted metal. “I try to follow what the public health experts recommend and once they started talking about the variants and suggesting double masking, I started doing it,” said Logan, who says she wears her masks to work and doesn’t remove them all day.
