The Fairfield City Council met last night and revised the liquor ordinance to clarify definitions and descriptions for establishments selling alcohol. Several appointments were confirmed, as well, including Bryan Williams to the Police Pension Board; Andrew Miller to the Fire Pension Board; Cody Atteberry, Mark Turner, and Nicki Roethe to the Zoning Board; and Carrie Halbert to the Recreation Committee. In his report last night, Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith said the City Band will perform this season, and their first concert is scheduled for June 13th. The Farmland Assessment Review Committee will hold a public hearing for 2022 farmland assessments at 1 tomorrow in the Wayne County Boardroom, according to Supervisor of Assessments Jodi Poole. The final day to file a complaint with the Board of Review is June 23

21-year-old McLeansboro resident Gabrielle A. Hopfinger pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony count of possession of methamphetamine yesterday in Wayne County Circuit Court. She was sentenced to 30 months special section probation, plus time served, and two other counts were dismissed per her plea. Hopfinger was also ordered to pay $1,500 in fines and court costs.
