VIRGINIA Two police officers in Virginia have died in the line of duty in 2021. While their names won’t be read at the National Police Officers’ Memorial Service until its Oct. 16 rescheduled date, they will be honored virtually during National Police Week from May 9-16 this year. The coronavirus has been cited for one police officer line of duty death in Virginia in 2021, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. Nationally, 63 of the 119 police deaths in 2021 as of May 4, just under 53 percent, have been due to the virus.

JUST IN: Police investigate death of Reston man in Fairfax County jail

April 28, 2021 at 11:00am A 30-year-old man from Reston died yesterday (Tuesday) after being transported to a hospital from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office says. Identified as Christopher Fojt by Fairfax County police, the man was found unresponsive in his cell around 11 p.m. last Thursday (April 22) by a post deputy. “The deputy immediately rendered aid until relieved by ADC medical personnel,” the sheriff’s office says in a news release. “Rescue arrived, continued lifesaving measures and transported the inmate to a hospital.” Fojt was was pronounced dead by hospital personnel at 7:29 p.m. on April 27.

A Fairfax County man has been accused of multiple rapes, according to an indictment from the Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney, Steve Descano. Drew John Steiner is accused of raping multiple people over the course of about a month last year. Descano said in at least one case, Steiner allegedly met a victim through a dating app and filmed the assault.  The indictment charges Steiner with rape, abduction and unlawful videotaping. According to the indictment, Steiner is accused of rapes in Fairfax County between July 7, 2020 and August 18, 2020.
