Self-Driving Cars Make Local Debut Self-driving cars from Optimus Ride are now navigating DC’s waterfront, available for pick-ups in the Yards with access to Barracks Row and Capitol Hill. Stolen Dodge Charger Recovered by Police Officers in the Reston District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department recently recovered an automobile that had been reported stolen in the Herndon area of the county, according to the weekly crime report. [Reston Patch]

The Reston District Station police force is open to working alongside the community to establish trust and transparency.
That is the message that Reston District Station Commanders Captain Thea Pirnat and Lieutenant Marc Mitchell discussed with residents during a virtual Hunter Mill Town Hall hosted by Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn on Tuesday.
“We recognize the fact that police work is a changing profession,” Pirnat said. “It’s been evolving for a long time; we will continue to evolve. There’s always room for growth and improvement.”
Pirnat and Mitchell said that the Fairfax County Police Department’s policies and its work for the community, specifically as it relates to the Reston District Station and the Reston community.

FCPS employees who have been designated as essential should follow the directions of their supervisor. Emergency administrative leave has been approved for all other personnel.

The School Board meeting scheduled for Thursday will take place virtually and begin at 7 p.m.
Fairfax County employees have been given emergency administrative leave. Those employees who have been approved for telework, either fixed or occasional, are expect to telework on Thursday. Those employees may also use accrued leave whenever unscheduled or administrative leave are instituted and they are not eligible to receive extra compensation when teleworking.
Reston is officially one step closer to getting a new athletic field.
Hunters East LLC has granted the Fairfax County Park Authority a little over seven acres at the northeast intersection of Hunter Mill Road and the Dulles Toll Road, according to a county release.
The proffer agreement calls for the property to be used as an athletic field or other recreational amenities. The agreement is intended to ensure that residents of Brookfield Properties’ Halley Rise mixed-use development have enough green space.
The 36-acre redevelopment project is set to open its first phase of residential units in early 2022. The project is located at 12010 Sunrise Valley Drive.

Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw brought up the idea at a county board meeting back in October. He offered a motion that the county board authorize a hearing on allowing the county to transfer ownership of parking lots G and H at the Fairfax County Government Center to the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA).
