Public hearings are scheduled this week for the proposed closures of Divide and Ansted elementary schools in Fayette County at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
Hearings are planned as follows for the closures:
⢠Divide Elementary â Tuesday, May 25, 6 p.m., Divide Elementary school cafeteria, Lookout. Alternate date is May 27.
⢠Ansted Elementary â Wednesday, May 26, 6 p.m., Ansted Elementary gymnasium, Ansted. Alternate date is May 27.
The Fayette County Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, to vote on the school closures. All deliberations and a vote will occur in open session.

The Fayette County School Board is expected to name finalists for the superintendent position. This comes following the death of Manny Caulk in December. The search for a new superintendent began in mid-January. Three to five candidates will be announced Monday before the public has a chance to hear from the finalists later this week.

Meetings
Fayette County Farmland Protection Board â The Fayette County Farmland Protection Board will hold a regular meeting at the New Roots Community Farm at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 for the transaction of board business. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Bridge Day Commission The Bridge Day Commission will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the county commission chambers at the Fayette County Courthouse on the following dates: May 19, June 16, July 21, Aug. 19 and Sept. 15. Legal Aid Board Meeting Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) will hold its quarterly board of directors meeting at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 21. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the board meeting will be held virtually.
