What a year that was. Live performance was stopped dead in its tracks for most of 2020, and comedy – as viscerally live as you can get in dark and sweaty enclosed spaces above pubs or in club basements – was particularly hard hit. Never again, I suspect, will comedy fans complain about the privations of broom-cupboard venues at the Edinburgh Fringe.

It includes Jimmy Carr as host and characters David Mitchell, Richard Ayoade, Maya Jama, James Acaster, Joe Lycett, and Stacey Solomon as contestants
Critics have slammed it as there are no female comedians on the panel
All men are stand-ups while Maya and Stacey both work as television presenters
Channel 4 books no female comics for its year-end quiz
Channel 4 has been criticised for including no female comedians in its Big Fat Quiz Of The Year.
The line-up for this year’s two-hour show, which will air on Boxing Day, includes four male comedians plus host Jimmy Carr. But women are represented by presenters Stacey Solomon and Maya Jama, not professional stand-ups.
The booking decision has prompted irritation online.
Among them were comic and Mash Report star Rachel Parris wjo tweeted: ‘The practice of casting comedy shows with only male comedians plus other famous women who are not comedians is unbelievably infuriating. It’s a comedy show,
