Feel like you re at the end of the Earth as you escape to the Faroe Islands

Feel like you’re at the end of the Earth as you escape to the Faroe Islands Ben West 14 May 2021, 22:05 LANDING at the Faroe Islands’ tiny airport is certainly an experience – the runway is wedged between two jagged, rocky mountains that lead down to lush green grass. There are no trees as the wind has blown them all down. There’s not a house, person or a sheep in sight. There’s silence, as if you’re almost at the end of the Earth. 3 Experience silence and enjoy the beauty of a tiny archipelago of volcanic rocks in the North Atlantic between Scotland and Iceland, Faroe IslandsCredit: Shutterstock

Three islands on the green list you can visit from the 17 May

Wednesday 12 May 2021 The initial green list has finally arrived. And, let’s be honest, ‘limited’ doesn’t even begin to describe it. Australia may be on the list as somewhere that doesn’t require you to quarantine once you return to the UK, which is all well and good – apart from the fact that Australia isn’t letting in any foreign holiday-makers at all this year. And as for mostly uninhabited South Georgia and Tristan da Cunha (only accessible via a seven-day trip on a South African fishing vessel from Cape Town), they were barely reachable even before Covid struck the world, let alone now.

What the government s green list really means for travellers

What the government’s green list really means for travellers The UK government has announced that people in England can travel to 12 countries from 17 May. But before you book your tickets you may want to read this first. Once non-essential international travel resumes on 17 May, people in England will be able to travel to 12 countries without self-isolating at home or paying to quarantine in a hotel when they return. The 12 countries and islands are: Australia, Brunei, the Faroe Islands, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Iceland, Israel, New Zealand, Portugal – including Madeira and Azores – Singapore, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and St Helena, Tristan de Cunha and Ascension Island.

Where to go for the perfect post-vaccination getaway

Finally being older has an advantage – you could be one of the first to go on holiday 2 May 2021 • 5:00am Liberty beckons for the fully vaccinated older generations  One thing we can be certain of in these Covid turbulent times is that nothing is certain, especially when it comes to holidays. Plans are made, only to evaporate; dates are pencilled in and then crossed out; hopes are raised, hopes are dashed. Now, though, as we edge towards summer, travel freedom – in the form of vaccination passports combined with green list destinations – is becoming a distinct reality. At least it is for some: the young, poor darlings, still waiting for their first and second jabs, look to remain grounded, but for oldies, liberty beckons.
