Construction starts on multipurpose small reactor in Hainan--China Economic Net

Construction of an ACP100 technology demonstration small modular multipurpose nuclear reactor at Changjiang in Hainan province kicked off on Tuesday.   The Changjiang project thus became the world s first on-land commercial modular small reactor to reach the construction stage, said its operator China National Nuclear Corp.   The ACP100, also known as Linglong One, is small nuclear reactor technology. The 125-megawatt pressurized water reactor (PWR) design makes the facility fit for electricity generation, heating, steam production or seawater desalination.   When completed, it can produce 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year and meet the demand of 526,000 households, CNNC said.   An analyst said the project will play a key role in ensuring clean energy supply for the Hainan Free Trade Port while also stepping up the country s nuclear innovation and development.

China to hold international service trade fair in September--China Economic Net

The China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), a major platform for the service trade in the country, will take place in early September in Beijing, authorities said on Tuesday.   China will expand the opening up of the service sector and further relax market access restrictions, said commerce ministry official Chen Chunjiang at a press conference.   Highlighting openness, cooperation, and global economic recovery, the CIFTIS 2021 will focus on current topics such as the digital economy and carbon neutrality, said Yan Ligang, head of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.   Apart from the traditional venue of the China National Convention Center, some CIFTIS events will take place in Shougang Park, a new city landmark, once a vacated industrial site in Shijingshan District, said Yan.

Chinese Doctors, a film based on real-life events in China s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, continues its robust ticket sales growth as the summer box office starts to heat up in China.   The tear-jerker continued its dominance of China s daily box office chart since its release four days ago, with its cumulative revenue surging past 465 million yuan (71.81 million U.S. dollars) early on Tuesday evening, data from box office tracker Maoyan show.   It is a cinematic portrayal of dedicated health professionals racing against the clock to save lives from coronavirus.   Chinese Doctors is expected to complete its China box office run with total earnings of more than 1.66 billion yuan, according to the newly-upgraded forecast by Maoyan.

Tibetan Buddhist monastery completes first large-scale renovation--China Economic Net

A prominent Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the northwestern province of Gansu has basically completed its first large-scale comprehensive protection and renovation, local authorities announced Tuesday.   It is part of a wider 400-million-yuan (61.77 million U.S. dollars) preservation project to renovate Labrang Monastery, one of the largest temples of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism.   According to Sonam Gya, in charge of protecting the monastery s artifacts, the project began in 2012 and was the first large-scale renovation of the shrine in more than 300 years. The refurbishment focused on protecting cultural relics, upgrading infrastructure and constructing supporting facilities for tourism.   The main renovation of 14 Buddhist halls in the monastery has been completed, with repair work on paintings and frescos ongoing, said Gya.

Celebrations of CPC s centenary set to release overseas--China Economic Net

China s major celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China have been made into a series of video publications, set to be released domestically and abroad, China Media Group announced on Sunday.   As the country s largest broadcaster, the group live streamed the grand gathering held at Tian anmen Square in Beijing on July 1 and recorded the art performance, titled The Great Journey, in Beijing s National Stadium, also known as the Bird s Nest, on June 28.   CMG also aired the 24-episode feature program, Gan Jiao Ri Yue Huan Xin Tian (An Unprecedented Change), and a 10-episode program about a CPC knowledge contest that included  many college students across the country as contenders.
