City Fire Chief Thomas Groff described the results of the early morning house fire at 213 S. Main that has displaced 10 people as a “total loss,” during his report to the Common Council Tuesday night.
“I’ve been at that all day today,” Groff told the council. “It was a little bit of a challenge. We did determine the cause to be an electrical issue in the house. There were several issues of that nature in the house. It was a two-family house. It had a lot of electrical outlets.”

ALBANY The Pfizer and Moderna COVID vaccines remain available in adequate supply in the Capital Region, public health officials said Tuesday.
So the federal government’s temporary pause on use of the third vaccine, made by Johnson & Johnson, should have limited short-term impact on the mass vaccination campaign that has reached as much as 46% of residents in some Capital Region counties.
More worrisome is the potential longer-term impact on public willingness to receive those vaccines, as a significant portion of the populace was reluctant to be vaccinated even before rare side effects of the J&J vaccine were reported.

ALBANY & SCHOHARIE – A state Supreme Court judge in Albany has rejected Mavis Discount Tire’s efforts to be removed from legal liability for the 20 deaths that resulted from the October 2018 Schoharie limousine crash, in which the company is accused of not addressing problems with the vehicles brakes.
Acting state Supreme Court Judge Denise A. Hartman on April 2 turned down the corporation’s efforts to be dismissed from the wrongful lawsuits brought by the estate of crash victims against limousine company Prestige Limousine and Chauffer Services of Wilton, members of the Hussain family who owned the limousine, Mavis, and several corporate entities related to Mavis.
