Fentanyl Seizures at Southern U S Border Have Increased 233% in One Year

Fentanyl Seizures at Southern U.S. Border Have Increased 233% in One Year On 4/19/21 at 11:32 AM EDT Seizures of the deadly drug fentanyl increased by about 233 percent between March 2021 and last year as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials say the 652 pounds seized at the southwest border last month is part of a concerted increase in drug smuggling operations. Data released by CBP Friday revealed that border agents have seized 2,098 pounds of fentanyl, compared with 639 pounds uncovered along the southwest border during the same period last year. The number of seizure events is nearly identical to one year ago, but public health officials continue to warn that drug overdose deaths likely exceeded more than 90,000 in 2020 and are on track to worsen in 2021. GOP lawmakers in Washington have pounced on the fentanyl seizure increase as the fault of President Joe Biden s inability to control the border surge of migrants.

Unsolicited Advice to Defense Attorney for Derek Chauvin -- Part Two

Court TV via AP, Pool In Part One of this effort, I focused on three specific matters which, if I was defending Derek Chauvin, I would be sure to emphasize in my closing argument.  Those areas were:  That the perspective of trained medical professionals and experts is of limited use in evaluating the actions of a police officer who does not have the same training and was not working with the benefit of videos, written reports, and full understanding of George Floyd’s medical problems. Repeatedly remind the jury that the prosecution’s own expert said Chauvin’s knee across Floyd’s back and neck played no role in the mechanism of Floyd’s death, and drive home the idea that the prosecution purposely misled the jury by making so much of the position of Chauvin’s knee with the witnesses at the scene and the use of force experts.  They knew their primary medical expert on “cause of death” would say the position of his knee was not relevant.
