If you have eaten one pizza slice from Pizzeria Vittoria, it will come as no surprise that Food & Wine Magazine recently crowned Kyle Jacovino’s pies as the best in the state.
Celebrating its two-year anniversary on July 31, the Starland Yard mainstay resurrected Savannah’s passion for Jacovino’s pizzas, born when he was firing them up at The Florence.
“It feels like one year has all been lumped into two,” Jacovino said in a recent telephone interview. “It’s insane how fast Year One went, and then that craziness of COVID has been kind of unreal.”
Now that it’s spring and the public is moving about with vaccinations and great weather, business at Pizzeria Vittoria is booming.
Simone Concas was born into the hospitality trade.
“When I was younger, they just put a tray on me,” he said with a laugh, referring to his family and its bed-and-breakfast back in Sardinia, Italy.
“This is how it happened. That was the beginning of the whole thing,” La Scala’s new executive chef added in a recent interview. “It’s not like I chose to be in the business. The business chose me.”
Last month, La Scala owners Jeff Downey and Donald Lubowicki chose Concas to wear the top toque at their East 37th Street dining destination, and on April 27, he released a new spring menu.
For ice cream lovers, Finn & Quinn ice cream is available in its own mini-freezer at Kayak Kafé Midtown.
“It all started in the midst of the pandemic,” Monique Silén said of her own ice cream origin story, which was born out of her desire to find a “little creative outlet” during this past year.
She added, “I always thought, ‘How great would it be to have a small-batch ice cream shop here?’”
Born and raised in Panama, Silén referenced her roots and the wealth of creameries and parlors in her home country and said she wanted to recreate the familiar in Savannah, “something local, using really good, quality ingredients, [that] plays on the whole small-town” sensibility.
The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers reveal that Rena Sofer (Quinn Forrester) recently had some fun for the holidays with a message on her Instagram account. Sofer shared a pic, which made it look like a tiny Tanner Novlan (John “Finn” Finnegan) was sitting on her shoulder.
It was an “Elf on the Shelf” inspired photo that was meant to spread the Christmas spirit.
“I like it when my men are manageable!!” Sofer said in her post. “I can keep him around or just flick him off!! Oh wait… #christmasspirit…ok. Love you Finn and @tannernovlan #elfontheshelf #boldandbeautiful Finn on Quinn @boldandbeautifulcbs @cbstv”
