He made the comment in a statement issued in response to a call by Local Government Minister Premila Kumar for tenants in informal settlements to surrender their lease documents to allow development of iTaukei land for housing. She made the call during a consultation on the proposed Lot Allocation Policy in Lautoka last Saturday. Mr Chaudhry said residents should not do so. “They are legal tenants holding the agreement to lease for a period of 99 years,” the former prime minister said. “They are paying their annual rents to TLTB.
