Mashpee Wampanoag tribe member confronted over access to herring run

BUZZARDS BAY A member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe said he is planning to press charges against a motel co-owner following a dispute last week over access to a herring run. Steven DeGrace, of Onset, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, claims he was harassed and assaulted while trying to catch herring, as is allowed by aboriginal rights. However, motel co-owner Ronnie Armany says the confrontation was a misunderstanding.  DeGrace said he  was with friend Markiese Tomkinson at the Herring Run Motel on the Scenic Highway on the afternoon of May 7 when they were involved in an altercation with motel staff members.

Bourne Police Reports - March 3-9, 2021

Wednesday, March 3 At 10:34 PM, police made a traffic stop on Trowbridge Road that led to multiple charges including drunk driving. An officer on patrol spotted a black 2014 Ford F-250 pickup truck on Shore Road. The driver of the truck drifted into the center of the road near Oak Grove Cemetery. When the truck reached Trowbridge Road, the driver went through a stop sign, drove up on the sidewalk near the public schools and then back into the road. Police stopped the truck and identified the driver as Joseph Vanderstaay, 58, from Wareham. Mr. Vanderstaay showed obvious signs of intoxication, police said, and failed field sobriety tests. After being stopped, Mr. Vanderstaay complained of pain. Bourne firefighters came to the scene and took him to a local hospital. Police cited him for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop or yield. He will be issues a summons to Falmouth District C

Shelton, Milde seek Aquia District seat on Stafford Board of Supervisors A race for a seat on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors is heating up. Paul Milde announced he will try and win back his seat on the Board during a June 8 Primary Election. Milde served on the County Board from 2006 to 2017, when he stepped down to mount a primary campaign for the 28th District seat, representing Fredericksburg and Stafford in the Virginia House of Delegates. Bob Thomas, who served with Milde on the County Board, and is now retired from politics, went on to win the seat that year.
