Road races have returned to Maine and organizers of some of the larger races see the state’s COVID-19 guidelines for Organized Racing Events, released last week, as a path forward to holding their events.

Falmouth High School distance standout Sofie Matson has been named Maine Cross Country Gatorade Player of the Year for the fourth time, The Gatorade Company announced Thursday.
For 36 years, Gatorade has honored the nation’s best high school athletes who also meet high academic standards and show exemplary character through community and school service.
The 5-foot-9 senior was undefeated for the fourth-straight season against Maine cross country competition last fall. She won the Cumberland County state qualifier with a time of 18 minutes, 8.85 seconds – finishing 26 seconds ahead of the field. But she missed the opportunity to defend her three Class A state titles since the Maine cross country state championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19

FALMOUTH – Elisabeth Perrault Hooper, 53, passed away at her home in Falmouth, Maine, on March 3, 2021, after a long battle with inflammatory breast cancer.
Liz was born April 11, 1967, to Dr. Thomas S. Perrault Sr. and Sandra Giles Perrault. She grew up in Methuen, Massachusetts, and attended the University of Maine in Orono where she met her future husband, Timothy Hooper.
Tim and Liz settled in Falmouth, Maine, to raise their two daughters, Abigail and Amelia. Liz’s greatest love was for her family: her husband Tim, with whom she celebrated 25 years of marriage last year; Abigail Elisabeth Hooper, a senior at Merrimack College; and Amelia Moore Hooper, a sophomore at Falmouth High School. About four years ago I was hosting the Maine Academy of Modern Music showcase Girls Rock, and Genevieve Stokes performed an original song on piano. When she was done, I got back on stage, turned to the audience and told them that they should remember her name because I was certain she was going to be famous.
Stokes, who graduated from Falmouth High School in 2019, was signed to Atlantic Records in the fall, and her debut EP, “Swimming Lessons,” comes out on Friday.
