(WTVF) — The Sumner County Sheriff s Office is searching for an inmate who escaped while on furlough to attend his sister s memorial service. Casey Jamison was granted the brief furlough by the court to attend the service Friday but the sheriff s office says he ran from the family member he was with. An additional warrant was issued for felony warrant for escape. He was serving a sentence (nine years in total) for a violation of community corrections with the original charges being theft over $10,000 and evading arrest. His prior charges include DUI, drug possession, weapons possession, resisting arrest, and others.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday took up the issue of grant of temporary leave, or furlough, to convicts who have been sentenced to imprisonment till their death in heinous crimes while granting interim bail to one such convict lodged in a Haryana prison for 11 years, the last four of which were without furlough. A bench of Justices L N Rao and Vineet Saran granted interim bail of six weeks to murder convict Gaurav Rana. The trial court had sentenced Rana to life imprisonment with the caveat that he would not be released till his death. The Punjab and Haryana HC had upheld the order and the appeal against it is pending in the SC.
