Major Investment will bring social benefits
Development of the mine should help create a better future
Plans by Dalradian to develop an underground gold-silver-copper mine in Tyrone will bring social as well as economic benefits according to professional services firm EY which has conducted an external review of the project.
It concluded that “the development of the mine should help create a better future for the local population”. This includes the creation of c.1,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs and £21m in annual salaries.
It’s widely acknowledged that ‘wealth and health’ are closely related and the review makes a number of observations about the social benefits the mine could deliver.

LONDON: Covid-19 case rates have dropped below 50 cases per 100,000 people in more than 95 per cent of local areas of the UK, new analysis shows.
It is the first time since the start of September that as many as 19 in 20 areas have seen their rates plunge below such a symbolic level. Around one in 10 areas are even recording rates in single figures.
It is almost a complete turnaround from how the data looked three months ago, when the second wave of coronavirus had just peaked.
In the week to January 24, only three of the 380 local areas in the UK, 1 per cent, had Covid-19 rates below 50 cases per 100,000 people. The latest figures, for the week to April 24, show the number is now 364 out of 380, or 96 per cent.
NISRA data reveals no new deaths registered locally in last week Latest figures published today by NISRA show that six deaths involving Covid-19 occurred in the week April 17-23, 2021. The total number of Covid-19 related deaths that occurred up to April 23 has now reached 2,953. Of the 2,953 Covid-19 related deaths, 1,949 took place in hospital, 772 in care homes, 14 in hospices and 216 at residential addresses or other locations. The comparative number of deaths reported daily by the Department of Health to April 23 was 2,141. These figures are based on patients having previously tested positive for the virus, whereas the NISRA figures are based on the information entered on death certificates completed by medical professionals. They may or may not have previously tested positive for the virus and therefore include both confirmed and suspected cases, and where Covid-19 was either a contributor to or the main cause of death.
