Introduction
In the winter of 1946, Perkins Pringle boarded the first leg of a 950-mile train ride from Durant, Mississippi, to Akron, Ohio the Rubber Capital of the World. He initially stayed with his Uncle Erich and found work at the twenty-five thousand-acre Ravenna Arsenal, which stockpiled ammunition and machinery during World War II. Eight years after his arrival, he ended up at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in the sooty mill room where workers mixed raw rubber with carbon black, or lamp black, which made tires strong and dark. He then moved to the tube room, the rubber shop, and eventually the tire tread shop, making it a point to learn every job there within six months.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Though the winter season in Cleveland can often be full of gray days and slush, it also brings its own kind of fun in the form of sledding.
Every snow day, local kids break out their toboggans, tubes and sleds to speed down locally renowned hills. During the coronavirus pandemic, social distancing is a manageable feat on a sledding hill and face masks are a welcome accessory in frigid temperatures.

AKRON, Ohio A man stole a small Bobcat front-end loader, then used it in an attempt to break into an ATM at a bank in the Firestone Park neighborhood, police say.
The incident occurred at Citizen’s Bank on the 1100 block of East Waterloo Road at about 6:15 a.m. Friday, according to police. The ATM was damaged but police did not say if any money was taken.

AKRON, Ohio An 18-year-old male is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, after he robbed a woman and her brother, then forced the brother to leave with him, police say.
Devin Harp is being held in the Summit County Jail on on two counts of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and facsimile firearm, jail records show.
Officers were called to the area of South Arlington Street and Rosemary Boulevard in the Firestone Park neighborhood at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, police say. When officers arrived, a 30-year-old woman said she and her brother had been robbed by a man armed with a handgun.

AKRON, Ohio Police say a man armed with a hatchet robbed a Sheetz gas station in the Firestone Park neighborhood and they suspect he is connected with a similar robbery at BP station just hours earlier.
Police have a suspect in custody after arresting James Morrison, 22, in the area of West Dartmore Avenue and Sycamore Street. Morrison is being held in the Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, robbery, and assault, jail records show.
Officers were called to the Sheetz station on the 20 block of West Waterloo Road at about 1:30 p.m. A store employee said the suspect walked up the counter armed with a hatchet and demanded money. He used a bicycle to escape.
