Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized this at a national conference regarding the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term which was held in Hanoi on January 21.
The election is of particular importance, with the country currently sparing no effort to welcome the 13th National Party Congress. convene its 13th National Congress on January 25 to select its next
general secretary among other leaders.
Current General Secretary Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong has served as president of
Vietnam since 2018 and is expected to step down from his role as head of party
as he has completed his two-term limit.
Trong, who has largely used his roles to consolidate state
power, would like his successor to continue his “furnace-blazing” anticorruption campaign and
further strengthen the country’s central political institutions.

Preparations underway for upcoming elections
Joint efforts have been made to prepare for the upcoming elections, heard a meeting of the National Election Council (NEC) in Hanoi on January 18.
It was reported at the second meeting of the NEC that the council has joined hands with the NA Standing Board, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in the preparation work.
As of January 14, the issuance of documents regarding the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature, and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure has been completed.
Efforts have been made to ensure security and safety for the elections, according to chief of the office of the NEC Nguyen Hanh Phuc. Meanwhile, election committees have been set up swiftly in localities.
