The
Air Intelligence unit of the
Pune Customs arrested a member of a syndicate smuggling gold paste from Dubai. The investigation revealed that Arshad Ahmed, who was arrested last week, was monitoring operations of the Penkar gold paste smuggling syndicate in
Maharashtra.
Kondhwa resident Arshad was arrested and produced in court; his bail application was rejected on the basis of the crime’s severity.
He is considered to be the missing link of the smuggling syndicate behind the gold paste case, which was unearthed back in 2019. During the period from November 30 to December 7, 2019, the syndicate smuggled gold paste worth Rs 1.5 crore through Pune International Airport.
