Food aid for foreign residents amid pandemic
A city northeast of Tokyo has been providing food to foreign residents struggling in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
Joso City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is home to over 5,500 foreign residents. They account for about 10 percent of its population.
Many have lost their jobs or seen their income fall due to the pandemic.
The city and a support group for foreign residents set up a food distribution station at the city hall on Sunday.
They prepared rice, instant noodles, snacks and other foods for 130 people.
They also offered brochures containing useful information about living in Japan in 11 languages.
