MORGANTOWN Four Northern Panhandle high school seniors Wheeling Park High School’s Elijah Wright, John Marshall High’s Zara Zervos, Weir High’s Samantha Antol and Madonna’s Madalena Daughterty on Monday were among 20 seniors statewide named 2021 West Virginia University Bucklew Scholars.
The award, valued at $40,000 over four years, also allows each of the 20 to be considered for the Foundation Scholarship, WVU’s highest academic scholarship.
Resolute in pursuit of their goals, a thirst for knowledge and dedication to their communities, these high school seniors have demonstrated resiliency as disruption hit at a pivotal time in their lives.
Six scholars seek careers in engineering: Dayne Gibson, an engineering major from University High School, Isabella Hart, a mechanical and aerospace engineering major from Hurricane High School, and Zara Zervos, and aerospace engineering major minoring in business from John Marshall High School.

The Moundsville Economic Development Council has made available such a tour without leaving your home or business. The new tour is the result of the MEDC purchasing equipment necessary for virtual tours.
Those wishing to take advantage of such a tour will need a Facebook account.
Person interested can contact the MEDC at 304-845-6200 to purchase a card which will be needed in order to make contact with the tour.
Those on the “tour” will be able to ask questions from a tour guide.

Senior Zara Zervos has been both an academic and athletic standout during her time at John Marshall High School.
GLEN DALE Zara Zervos has been a standout student and athlete throughout her time at John Marshall High School, and her efforts have earned her recognition both for academics and for her technical aptitude.
Zervos is one of 14 students in the country and the only student in West Virginia to be chosen as a nominee for U.S. Presidential Scholar and U.S. Presidential Scholar in Career & Technical Education. She has a GPA of 4.57 and scored a 1490 on her SAT, placing her in the 99th percentile. Presidential Scholar nominees can be chosen based on three courses: SAT performance, CTE aptitude, or artistic talent.
