The Senate yesterday assured the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, the service chiefs, Acting Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr. Alkali Usman, and heads of intelligence agencies, of its readiness to ensure that they have all they need to tackle the worsening insecurity in the country.
President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, gave the assurance while welcoming the security chiefs to a closed-door meeting with senators over security challenges facing the nation.
The meeting, which was in response to last week’s summoning of the CDS and service chiefs by the Senate lasted for about four hours.

Senate on Thursday at plenary went into closed session with some heads of security agencies in the country.
The closed session followed the invitation of the security chiefs by the Senate, following the rising insecurity situation in the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Service Chiefs that were present at the meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff Maj.-Gen Attahiru Ibrahim, and the Acting Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba.
Also in attendance were the Directors – General, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) Maj.-Gen Samuel Adebayo, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar, and Department of State Services (DSS),Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

The Senate has promised the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Service Chiefs, Acting Inspector General of Police (IG) and Heads of intelligence agencies in the country, of its readiness to do everything within its power to ensure that they have all they need to tackle the worsening insecurity situation in the country.

The meeting, which was in response to last week’s summon of the CDS and service chiefs by the Senate over rising security challenges facing the nation, was held behind closed doors for about four hours, with Lawan presiding over the session.
