Laos saw its first expressway, the Vientiane-Vang Vieng Expressway, officially being opened on December 20. The 110-kilometer four-lane stretch is part of the planned China-Laos expressway, which eventually would connect the Lao capital with the country s northern border town of Boten at an approximate length of 440 kilometers. The project is aimed at boosting the economic development of central and northern Laos and facilitating business cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Laos. Construction was carried out by China s Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group in cooperation with the Lao government, a joint venture where smart technology provided by Chinese.

VIENTIANE, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) The Vientiane-Vangvieng Expressway, the country s first expressway, jointly developed by Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group (YCIH) and the Lao government and officially opened on Sunday, is also Laos first smart expressway with Huawei technology, said the Chinese tech giant.
Huawei cooperating with its Chinese partners has built a secure, stable, and intelligent ICT platform for this smart expressway based on the global-leading information and communication technology (ICT), cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and security management system, said a press release issued on Monday by Huawei.

The opening ceremony was held simultaneously in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and Kunming of southwest China s Yunnan Province, via video conferencing.
Bounnhang Vorachith, general secretary of the Lao People s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos, and Sonexay Siphandone, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Investment, in Vientiane, joined Ruan Chengfa, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Yunnan Provincial Committee and the province s Acting Governor Wang Yubo, in Kunming, together with representatives from China and Laos, to attend the ceremony.
