Properties of BJP ministers and MLAs have come under attack several times since early last month. BJP leader and union minister of state for external affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, whose house in Imphal town was set on fire by a mob Saturday night, has openly criticised the state government for its handling of the situation. “The existing state government could not maintain the law and order situation despite the Centre providing a large number of central forces. I do not know why the state mechanism has failed,” he said on Sunday.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Joykumar Singh, has expressed concerns over the escalating violence in the state. He also said his party, the National People's Party (NPP), may reconsider its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if the conditions do not improve.
The NPP delegation expressed their anguish over the repeated incidents of violence and arson in many parts of the state and sought the governor's intervention to save lives in Manipur.
