The panel pointed out that the Manchester role also involves powers over fire and rescue services, waste disposal and public health - responsibilities the West Yorkshire Mayor will not have. The West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner role currently includes an annual remuneration of £100,000. A man gets on a bus in Bradford city centre WEST Yorkshire Councillors have raised concerns over the future of local bus services, and fear the Covid pandemic could see some routes or even whole companies disappear. Lockdowns, the need for social distancing, home working and a reluctance to return to public transport has meant bus usage, and income for bus companies, has plummeted since March. But at a meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee yesterday, members heard that despite the greatly reduced income to fund bus routes, services still needed to run to help transport key workers.

A £28 MILLION office development in Bradford city centre will move to the next stage, and one Councillor has said the absence of such office space had “held Bradford back.” One City park will be built on the site of the former Tyrls police station on the edge of City Park. At a meeting yesterday West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Investment Committee yesterday a member of Bradford Council’s Executive said that although the Covid 19 Pandemic had raised debates about the future of office working, One City Park would be designed for the post pandemic needs of businesses. During an online meeting the committee agreed to free up close to £2 million for the final preparations for One City Park before work begins. Members also agreed funding for another Bradford project - the Parry Lane Enterprise Zone.
