Nearly 300,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, donated by the Dutch government through the Covax Facility, touched down in Cambodia on December 10, with 600,000 more set to be shipped through the facility in the next week.
The Ministry of Health is due to meet Chinese state-owned Covid-19 vaccine maker China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) and relevant parties in the coming week and discuss plans for a domestic jab factory, a senior official said on December 10.
Nine dogs that underwent Covid-19 detection training at the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) over the past few months can now identify people with the coronavirus and can isolate them from among thousands in only 10-15 seconds.
The Ministry of Health reported 116 new Covid-19 cases, 17 of which were imported. It noted that all the cases were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction tests.
World Health Organisation (WHO) representative to Cambodia Li Ailan said it was good news that economic activity will resume as businesses and the general public have been hit hard by the pandemic, but she also cautioned that everyone has to strike a balance between reopening and the implementation of health measures.
