Like so many, steam trains have held a nostalgic allure ever since watching the 1970 film adaptation of E. Nesbit's classic The Railway Children and no Christmas is complete in my household without it; laughing and crying alternately with Bobby and her siblings as they wave to the 9:15 to Paddington and "send their love to Father".
