SURAT: Surat city on Thursday recorded 202 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths. According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, a 62-year-old man from Amroli and a 73-year-old woman from Varachha’s Yogi Chowk succumbed to viral infection.
Rander zone reported highest daily infections with 61 cases followed by Athwa zone that reported 51 cases. City s Udhna zone recorded 11 cases, the lowest in the city.
SMC officials said that 492 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals on Thursday and the recovery rate had increased to 96.03% in the city.
As of Thursday, 19,100 people were under home quarantine and 886 Covid-19 patients were under treatment in different hospitals of the city. In Surat district, 115 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths were recorded.
The accused had allegedly sold six duplicate vials for Rs 7,000 each
Surat: In what can be attributed as adding salt to injury, an unscrupulous person was nabbed by Sarthana police on Thursday after locals caught him in Yogi Chowk for selling duplicate remdesivir injections. The accused who identified himself as Divyesh had allegedly sold six duplicate vials for Rs 7,000 each on Wednesday.
The victim’s family caught the accused when he came to accept the vials back on Thursday. He was handed over to Sarthana police along with the injection vials.
However, police told the victim’s family that the delivery of the vials was done under Umra police station jurisdiction and hence, the complaint should be registered there. After Jignesh Malani and his family reached Umra police station to lodge a complaint, Umra police refused to register the complaint and sent them back to Sarthana.
Surat: Surat city recorded 1,553 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. City witnessed highest Covid-19 deaths in the state when 24 patients succumbed on Tuesday.
Among the eight civic zones, Rander zone recorded highest daily infection with 251 cases, followed by 246 in Athwa zone. According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, those who died of Covid-19 included a 44-year-old woman from Kosad village, a 45-year-old woman from Varachha, a 41-year-old woman from Lambe Hanuman Road, a 30-year-old man from Yogi Chowk in Varachha, a 42-year-old woman from Limbayat and a 41-year-old man from Udhna in the city.
Surat district recorded 375 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday and one patient succumbed to the virus. Till now, Surat district has recorded 20423 cases and 309 patients died of the coronavirus.
Police recovered 2.45 lakh in cash
Surat: Crime branch sleuths busted a racket of black marketing of remdesivir injection in Punagam area and recovered 12 vials of the life-saving drug on Saturday. Police also arrested six accused and recovered Rs 2.45 lakh in cash earned through sale of injections in the past few days.
One of the accused is a partner in a hospital in Yogi Chowk and owner of a medical store in the hospital. He used to sell the injections procured for patients admitted in the hospital. “The accused were selling each injection in Rs 12,000 to the buyer. Police laid a decoy trap and nabbed the accused,” said city police commissioner Ajay Tomar.
Surat: The steady rise in new Covid-19 case as well as the casualties continued on Thursday as the Diamond city witnessed 1,551 new cases as compared to Wednesday’s 1,424. As per the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) s official data, 25 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus on Thursday.
Out of the 25 patients who died of Covid-19, nine were women with three of them below the 45-year-old category. A 32-year-old woman from Sarthana Jakatnaka, a 34-year-old woman from Lambe Hanuman Road in Varachha (A) zone, and a 43-year-old woman from Yogi Chowk of Varachha were among those who died on Thursday.
Out of the total eight civic zones, three Athwa, Rander and Katargam reported over 200 Covid-19 positive cases on Thursday. Rander, which crossed 10,000 positive-case mark on Thursday, and Athwa were the Covid-19 hotspots for the last few months.
