The eighth meeting of the Yemeni Supervisory Committee on the Implementation of the Detainees Exchange Agreement concluded in the Jordanian capital Amman on Sunday with the gatherers failing to reach a deal. The meeting was sponsored by the office of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) and International Committee of the Red Cross.
The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Otto Pedersen, will take part in talks on Syria's future in Astana, Russia's TASS state news agency reported on Tuesday, quoting Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. Deputy foreign ministers from Russia, Syria, Türkiye and Iran will meet in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, on Wednesday. Bogdanov also said that representatives from the observer countries that are Syria's neighbors - Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan - will also participate in the talks.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday urged Israel to halt and reverse what he described as troubling and alarming decisions on settlement activity in the occupied West Bank, a UN spokesperson said. "The Secretary-General reiterates that settlements are a flagrant violation of international law. They are a major obstacle to the realization of a viable two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace," deputy UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement.
