Here we go! Along with Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties in Northern California, Orange County has been cleared to move to the Yellow Tier as early as Wednesday.that means wider openings for more businesses including bars being allowed to open indoors, more bodies allowed in at theme parks, concert venues and more. Hopefully most businesses are ready to jump into update mode, but please check before you race to your favorite bar or bowling alley.some folks may need a little more time to get up to speed with this news just breaking today.

Sonoma County will be staying in the Orange Tier on the state’s coronavirus tier list for two more weeks. The county failed to move into the Yellow Tier after yesterday’s weekly tier list update. Local health officials said that while the county’s outlook in the pandemic continues to improve, they still missed the adjusted case rate threshold. To more into the Yellow Tier, a county needs to have an adjusted case rate of two new cases per 100,000 residents. The county’s current rate is barely short of that threshold with two-point-two new daily cases per 100,000.

UPDATED with latest: In the time of Covid, all good news seems to come with a caveat. Tuesday’s announcement that Orange County has met the requirements to move from California’ Orange, or moderate, reopening tier to the Yellow, or minimal, tier was a case in point.
Initially, officials thought they had to wait 48 hours, but that rule has been dropped and they confirmed they could reopen in the Yellow tier on Wednesday. It’s unclear why there was confusion on this tier movement when Orange County has made two similar moves in the past few months.
