Nostalgia is all the rage these days, especially when it comes to video games of yesteryear. Sometimes that means resurrecting old properties for a brand new generation. The concept of resurrection is especially on point in this case, as Lucasfilm Games and Dotemu announced they will release the classic game
Zombies Ate My Neighbors and its sequel on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC this year.
LucasArts’ and Konami’s
Zombies Ate My Neighbors first came out in 1993. It follows Zeke and Julie as they attempt to save their hometown from the undead, along with various other spooky creatures. The game is a hotbed of horror movie references and got quite violent at times, too. (Europe and Australia censored the grisliest parts of the game.) Though not a huge commercial success,
Zombies Ate My Neighbors and its sequel,
Ghoul Patrol, to modern platforms this summer, the companies announced Tuesday. The 16-bit games specifically the Super NES versions will receive new features when they come to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on June 29, 2021.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors was originally released for Sega Genesis and SNES in 1993 through Konami. The top-down run-and-gun game stars Zeke and Julie as they battle zombies, vampires, Martians, mutant blobs, and other monsters across more than 50 levels of schlock horror sci-fi action.
Ghoul Patrol brought back Zeke and Julie for more adventures the following year.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors tells the story of protagonists Zeke and Julie as they try to save their town from vampires monsters, giant babies, Martians, and, yes, zombies and ghouls. Both games will include modern conveniences like a quick save feature and achievement support. Fans will also find behind-the-scenes content like developer interviews, art galleries and more.
You’ll have the chance to buy
Zombies Ate My Neighbors and
Ghoul Patrol together for
$15 on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, Steam and GOG. And if you want a physical copy of the games, you’re in luck. Limited Run Games will sell copies for select current and legacy platforms, with more details to come closer to the summer.
