huge protests that are rocking israel at the moment. as we speak, the right-wing government in israel today mounting an effective takeover of the judiciary in that country. which will not only be very convenient for their prime minister who is under criminal indictment, but will also broadly remove the ability of the courts to constrain the government in lots of important ways. not a written constitution, israel has no written constitution the court ability to constrain the government is effectively the only constraint on the government. and if they will get rid of that, while the government will be unconstrained. starting presumably with the prime minister s ability to dismantle the corruption charges that depend against him. whilst he serves as prime minister. tens of thousands of israelis have been protesting for six months now. against these proposals. the government finally pushed through the first of them today. knowing that was likely, tuesday last week, a few hundred protesters
in this country, are concerned. but also as far as moving this country further to the right is concerned. one of the things that many people here are afraid of, are concerned about, and that the government of the, day the government currently in power could make fundamental changes here in this country that could impact all of society without being kept in check. and i think that one of the things that people really need to realize is that israel does not have a written constitution. and so the supreme court really in many ways was sort of the keeper of what this country should be about, and about a lot of those fundamentals. we need to look at, for instance, that the law that was passed today is a law that will make it impossible for the supreme court to stop a lot of these legislative measures that the government wants to push through. or any government watch the push through that is in power here in israel, right now of course, you have benjamin netanyahu with the far-right governme
implications. and moving this country to the right is concerned. many people are concerned that the government of the day, the government in power, could make fundamental changes here in this country, that could impact all of society. one of the things that people need to realize is that israel does not have a written constitution. the security in many ways was the keeper of what this country should be about and the fundamentals. the law passed today is a law that will make it impossible for the supreme court to stop a lot of the legislative measures that the government wants to push there. right now, you have benjamin netanyahu, with prime ministers that will do things that will be detrimental.
