中国也是世卫组织西太平洋区域三十多年来第一个获得无疟疾认证的国家。该区域已取得这一地位的其他国家还有澳大利亚（1981年）、新加坡（1982年）和文莱达鲁萨兰国（1987年）。消除疟疾认证是世卫组织对一个国家无疟疾状态的正式承认。如果一个国家以严格、可信的证据证明，至少在过去连续3年内，按蚊引起的本地疟疾传播链在全国范围内已被阻断。同时，一个国家还必须展现出防止疾病再次传播的能力。在这样的情况下，世卫组织会授予该国家消除疟疾认证。而中国自2017年以来已经连续4年没有本土疟疾病例报告。2020年11月，中国正式向世卫组织申请国家消除疟疾认证。2021年5月1日至27日，世卫组织专家组抽取了湖北省、安徽省、云南省和海南省代表中国接受世卫组织的现场评估。疟疾曾是长期困扰中国的传染病之一，1942年，重庆�
