illegals. reporter: civil liberty groups say it s a massive privacy violation. we re talking about fing fingerprintiing every single american worker. that card will be used to travel and vote and perhaps even to own a gun. if you look at the way the social security number expanded over the years, i m sure there will be a lot of uses for the card. reporter: social security numbers, part of president s roosevelt new deal were just supposed to track your social security account. now they identify people for a variety of purposes. senator graham doesn t think a work i.d. system would expand like that. this won t be a national i.d. card. it s a tamper proof card to get a job. we don t have one today. critics say it gives the federal government too much power. now you need government permission. you need that i.d. card before you are a allowed to work. reporter: senator graham says the white house has been a hissal resistant to the idea but he and senator
these assessments needs to include ways to control every point of entry, and from there, if these experts determined that it s needed, you need to put an i.d. system in place, zero exceptions, they need to know everybody but goes into that school. i ve worked in two office buildings in new york, one forou radio, one for tv. if you a don t have a work i.d., you are not allowed entry. visitors are vetted through a security system and you must show your i.d. then you are usually checked in case you have any metal objects. from there, on a case-by-case basis, if some schools needed, they should haveve metal detects and other security measures. finally, you have to have an armedy security present at evey school in america and you can hire right? [cheers and applause] retired veterans and police officers. schools can noe longer be soft targets. you have to have people there who can fight back and challenge and confront any potential threat.
