legal team? it was all like, okay, what s next? what s next? what s next? this fight is not over. so we should also point out that the judge ruled that the u.s. women s national team earned both cumulatively and on an average per-game basis than the men s team during years the lawsuit is suing over. did his reasoning make sense to you? unfortunately, it did not make sense to us. what we are really arguing is about rate of pay and so unfortunately we had to play about 30 more games and have to be very successful in all the games that we played in to even make a comparable wage to what the men have. so for us, it s not about the accumulative amount. it s actually about the rate of pay and in that respect, there is discrimination. just to be clear, the prize money amounts for world cup specifically, they are determined by international soccer association, not u.s. soccer, is that right? fifa is responsible for the bonuses that get paid to each federation. and so, if we win the wor
it does. but that s not this case. fifa doesn t pay any money to these players. they pay money to federations like the u.s. soccer federation. and it determines how to divide up its money between the men and the women. they refused to pay the women equally because they thought they could get away with it. you cannot treat women like this in the workplace and get away with it. if i didn t think we were going to win, i would never have taken this case. you know, i think at some point between the final whistle and us landing in the u.s., like, every single part of the team probably thought about the lawsuit. you know, we were thinking, we ve still got to go back and figure out what we re doing and figure out what this means. now the world cup is over, another battle begins. the women s team will start mediation. mediation will be taking place between the two sides. that in itself is a very big
best, perform at the highest level, and continue to win. and so that s what we re here for, is to show people that example, hey, we can fight the good fight, but we can also apply good work onto the field and succeed at the same time. so, the team was riding high after the 2019 world cup win which, again, i will say, was awesome. you and your teammates said you felt like it was this moment where the change and the pay change was going to come, but it didn t happen. a federal judge has dismissed the equal pay claim in your lawsuit, dismissed your claim in the lawsuit and now the team is appealing that ruling. still, how discouraging was that ruling? very. it felt like a slap in the face to us because we thought filing this lawsuit, and then winning the world cup was kind of cherry on top, as if we a propproved ourselves, which is what we did. for them to continue to deny it, obviously we felt a little bit on the fence a little bit. and so a little bit of a slap in
