A Wits student was shot in the leg during protests on Monday, the university s SRC president Mpendulo Mfeka told TimesLIVE.
The student s condition was not immediately known.
There were also reports that several students were arrested after officers dispersed a group of protesters along the M1 near Braamfontein. According to reports on social media, students were making their way to the Hillbrow police station after the arrests.

that unfolded at Wits University on Wednesday.
The ongoing student
protests at the university escalated to the point where a 35-year-old man
was allegedly shot by police in Braamfontein.
While tyres were
burning and rocks blockaded the busy Braamfontein street, law enforcement
unloaded numerous roads of rubber bullets on students who scattered and took
refuge in nearby shops and buildings.
Police watchdog, IPID, says a 35-year-old bystander who died during an ongoing protest by Wits students was husband and father, Mthokozisi Edwin Ntumba.
