potential for some damaging winds and, yes, even some isolated tornados before this system finally pushes east. here s an oversaall scope of th storm. as it pushes off to the east you ll have a lot of winter precipitation that lingers in the midwest even into the day sunday and early monday. now again, for the northeast, the mid-atlantic, your big problem days are sunday going into monday once that system finally gets out there. so again, this is going to be a multi-day event for a lot of places. in terms of snowfall totals, some areas of the midwest and high plains picking up a foot of snow. the rain on the southern edge of this, most areas picking up 2 to 4 inches of rain. but also remember a lot of these places could also be looking at dense fog. we ve already had numerous cities report visibility of less than a quarter of a mile. and that s likely to continue tomorrow as well. yeah, we saw the danger of that in texas. all right, allison, thanks very much. coming up, searching f
memphis, even stretching down towards dallas and houston. tomorrow the same system just begins to push off to the east, so the big problems on sunday are likely going to be places like cincinnati, washington, d.c., boston, new york. again, as that system continues to push off to the east. now, in terms of that overall storm and why it s causing problems, it s because we have a mixed bag of just about everything. you ve got rain, you ve got snow, you ve got sleet. you ve got a little bit of everything. and in some cases sense fog as well. here s a look at the midwest. you can see lots of snow for places like fargo, rammed city and up towards duluth. minneapolis mostly going to get rain but you ll have a little winter precipitation mixed in as well. places like chicago, st. louis, stretching down towards memphis, mainly going to be rain. especially the farther south you go. oklahoma city, dallas, eventually over to the southeast, it s not only going to be rain but thunderstorms. some of
concern. you ve got a flood watch for a half a dozen states in the northeast. you re talking 2 to 4 inches in those widespread areas and for a short period of time. we re talking winter precipitation and not just snow. it s never safe to drive on ice. some people can handle the snow. not so much the ice. but in addition to that s, you re talking 3 to 6 inches of snoechlt even aft snow. you ve still got the wind gusts around 40 to 60 miles an hour. that s going to be a concern even after you start to see the clouds go away and the sun come out. the wind will still linger for quite a bit. speaking of clouds, there s some clouds over i just saw it today for the first time. have you seen it? the tree in the weather
least in the short term. you got some type of winter weather alert stretching from areas of wyoming all the way over into the northeast. you ve even got a couple of areas of ice storm warning and that is the concern where you start talking about that ice beginning to accumulate on the roadways and that main focus there is for states like new york, as well as pennsylvania. here is a look at the storm as a whole. very heavy snow coming down across portions of the midwest and heavy rain on the southern tier but look at the system as it begins to make its way into the northeast. these outer bands starting to slide in through philadelphia and up towards new york likely start to see that change over there from that beautiful sunrise to a bit more of a dreary one here in the next hour or so as the system continues to slide to the north and east. this is what we expect. new york likely going to start off as winter precipitation before transitioning over into rain sometime later on this afterno
