A security alert was sparked at an army base after a badger broke in to an ammunition compound.
The Ministry of Defence called in wildlife officers after the animal dug its way into the facility, in Wiltshire, last month.
A spokesman for the Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital said it had an ‘anxious call from the Army’.
Military officials told them the badger ‘penetrated secure fencing’ and was trapped.
The exact location of the base has not been disclosed for security reasons.
The MoD confirmed it had called the charity to ‘humanely capture and remove’ the trapped animal, which had gone through several levels of security.

Late last month, an adult badger became disoriented after tunneling into a high-security ammunition compound in England, prompting what the Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital (WWH), a local charity, described as an anxious call from the army. The country s Ministry of Defense stated that the purpose of the call had been to have the badger humanely capture[d] and remove[d] from the premises, according to the BBC.
WWH Wildlife Care Supervisor Marilyn Korkis was seemingly unfazed by the request. You won t deter a determined badger, she told the BBC, describing the animals as strong and incredible diggers.
Badger digs into high security ammunition compound in Wiltshire A BADGER got into difficulty after digging into a high security ammunition compound. The adult badger who had been unable to find his way out was rescued by Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital. A post on the charity’s Facebook page, which was posted yesterday, said: “An adult badger managed to dig into a high security ammunition compound and couldn t remember the place he penetrated to enter the sensitive area, so he couldn t find his way out. The charity did not want to disclose the location of the rescue for security reasons. It also says the badger was very, very annoyed when rescuers came to its aid. The incident is believed to have happened earlier this month.
